Qld: Lack of resources hampering DDP says report
A report's found high costs and heavy workloads are hampering public prosecutions in
Queensland's criminal justice system.
Queensland's Director of Public Prosecutions LEANNE CLARE says nothing much has changed
since 1989 when the first DPP, DES STURGESS, warned inadequate funding was causing serious
problems.
Ms CLARE, in an overview to the annual report for the Office of the Director of Public
Prosecutions, says the same types of problems are besetting her office.
She says salaries and briefing fees which are tied to the general public service pay
structure make it difficult to attract and retain experienced staff.
Attorney-General ROD WELFORD has released the terms of reference for a three-month inquiry
which will look at funding and management of the ODPP as well as the function of his own
department.
