NNA - Demonstrations demanding the stepping down of Sudanese dictator Omar el-Basheer, erupted in the Sudanese capital/Khartoum today.
The Sudanese Intifada was sparked at Oumm Dourman University with thousands of students clashing with anti-riot police.
They chanted slogans in support of Okambo report over Human Rights' violations in Sudan being correct. Angry protestors pelted anti-riot police with stones with police reportedly responding with tear gas and baton charges.
Students demanding regime change also protested against high living cost in Sudan.
At the faculty of Medicine, hundreds of students demanded the toppling of Al-Basheer the tyrant.
Meanwhile, and a bid to stop the Egyptian popular revolt from spreading into Sudan, the Islamist authorities placed a ban on dispatches by foreign media correspondent including Reuters and AFP. It is to note that the student Intifada in Sudan was triggered off by local internet bloggers who launched their anti-government activities 6 days ago. Which the authorities failed to control.
