Qld: One dead, four injured in highway crash

BRISBANE, Feb 17 AAP - One person has died and four others have been injured in a road
crash that has closed the Bruce Highway north of Brisbane.

Police said the crash at Federal, 40km north of Gympie, involved two B Double trucks and a car.

The driver of the car is dead and one of the truck drivers is in a serious condition,
while three others have unspecified injuries, police say.

A helicopter is on its way to the accident to take the truck driver to hospital for
medical treatment.

The Bruce Highway was likely to remain closed for hours, police said.

It is the second time in 24 hours the highway near Gympie, 160km north of Brisbane,
has been closed.

A man in his 50s died on Monday night after the B Double truck he was driving struck
guard rails at the Spring Valley Creek Bridge before leaving the road and landing in Spring
Valley Creek.

It took almost eight hours to reopen the highway after that crash.
