NSW: Senior staff holding on to jobs, small comps cut hours

An international business survey shows most senior Australian staff have so far managed
to hold on to their jobs during the global financial crisis.

But the Servcorp International survey finds almost a third of large businesses and
almost one in five small companies with fewer than 20 employees have shed junior and general
staff.

The survey of over seven thousand people from 24 countries .. shows more than 13 per
cent of small businesses have retained staff by cutting back on working hours .. often
to a four-day week .. a tactic not adopted by large businesses.
