WA: Denham quake like a truck driving through the front door

Residents of a West Australian town say an earthquake overnight felt like a truck driving
into the front of the house.

Denham resident LYNNE GUERINI says the quake shook her house for 10 terrifying seconds.

Geoscience Australia says the 5.2-magnitude earthquake hit in waters off Shark Bay
.. 800 kilometres north of Perth .. and about 50 kilometres south-west of Monkey Mia.

Recorded at 12.39 am local time (WDT) .. it didn't cause any structural damage.

The SES says there have been no calls for assistance.





In 1989 .. a 5.6 magnitude earthquake at Newcastle in New South wales killed 13 people
and injured 160.

Australia's largest known onshore earthquake was a 6.9 magnitude tremor at Meeberrie
.. 250 kilometres southeast of Shark Bay.
